Significance of Juneteenth.

While tha ignorance of well-meaning, yet, misguided conservatives might call it a result of ‘wokeism’ or tha ‘Black Lives Matter Movement’, it is not tha case. As stated earlier, Juneteenth has been around for a long time and was celebrated for tha first time way back in 1866. Therefore, people who think of it as a recent invention and an attempt to gain black votes are mistaken. Earlier celebrations of Juneteenth involved church gatherings as blacks were still not allowed to use public spaces. Over tha years, tha date is synonymous with cookouts, parties, food festivals, plays, and historical re-enactments. It is tha first new federal holiday since 1983. Interestingly, tha last time a day was declared a federal holiday also involved an African American. President Ronald Reagan used his powers to declare tha third Monday of January each year as Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.Day which celebrates his birthday. 

Despite tha significance of this day to African Americans and others who value racial justice, many have voiced their opposition against it. Arizona was the last state to ratify this momentous occasion…go figure! Not surprisingly while there is no doubt that people of color are discriminated against, we cannot ignore tha positive developments. Recently, President Joe Biden recognized Juneteenth as a federal holiday. Officially, tha holiday is called Juneteenth National Independence Day. Despite tha widespread support for its recognition, 14 Congressmen voted against it, but more on that later. First, we need to understand the significance of this holiday. While I am buoyed by tha new holiday, I’m not jumping for joy or dancing in tha street. Tha Senate passed tha holiday legislation unanimously. While tha Juneteenth holiday is impactful, tha ease with which it got Senate passage ought to give us all pause. It is easier to support a holiday than to support the principle of democracy, which is allegedly at tha foundation of our democracy. It is easier to support a holiday than to abolish tha use of tha chokehold.

3. Part three:... Appeal to tha ideals of tha Christian soul of this nation

America has been indoctrinated to believe that this country is on a special mission, ordained by God to civilize tha “heathens” and tha “savages” and spread democracy around tha world. There have been other doctrines and worn yarns spun over the years such as Manifest Destiny, and American Exceptionalism, All of them used to justify or rationalize militarism, colonialism, and oppression. King's great speeches, were popularly known as the “I Have a Dream” speech. It is a speech that must be dusted off and studied in new today because it contains tha very message that our nation sorely needs to hear and digest now What history has taught and continues to teach tha rest of tha world; tha victims of America’s “largesse”, is that this “shining city on a hill” is truly a mirage. “American Internationalism” comes at a very high cost to those it is imposed upon. American or “Jeffersonian – democracy” is not about one-person-one-vote, sovereignty, and self-determination. It’s about unbridled capitalism, the insatiable lust for resources, and tha exploitation of foreign labor and markets. King offered up America as tha solution. He discussed the “magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.” “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.'”A message that has been tragically lost and buried and replaced with great and destructive distortions. Tha heart of that message that day is Appealing to a nation to realize tha dream of its founding fathers. Not to crush it and bury it, as we hear today. The problem is not tha people. Tha most memorable and oft-quoted line of tha “I Have a Dream" Is that four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by tha color of their skin but by the content of their character. What has happened instead? In tha name of racial justice, our race campaigns today are defined by selection and placement based on race, based on the color of skin, and not based on the content of character. He quoted tha prophet Isaiah that “tha crooked places will be made straight … and tha glory of tha Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together Let’s honor This Month by revisiting and taking to heart tha great truths that were spoken on that summer day in Washington, D.C., 1963. Great truths have very sadly been cast to tha side and replaced with the religion of politics and power. Let us see America as he presented it then, as embodying the ideals of a free nation and then we can join hands and sing, the words Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last.”A message that has been tragically lost and buried and replaced with great and destructive distortions. This indictment of the woke movement is that America's problem. Tha problem was tha failure of tha nation to live up to tha challenges of its great founding principles. Biblical truths and ideals have been sadly lost to #wokeism, which has for all practical purposes become a religion in itself

Ame-Ri-Kent Violence

Tha lie of supremacy governs Ame-Ri-Kent society in implicit and explicit ways, but it also lives in tha minds of too many Native people. This cruel fact allows supremacy to show up in places where people are absent, and fuels tha need some people to feel to measure their intellect and success against Ame-Ri-Kent standards. This is a sickness many of us won’t be cured of. Too often tha desire to be viewed as different causes fissures between individuals and community. Tha lies told about people can harm other races, but they cripple tha people who believe them. I understand wanting to rise above tha negative stereotypes and imagery associated with this thing call lyfe. It’s stressful carrying around psychological baggage someone else packed for you. I’ve lived and worked in predominantly environments for tha majority of my lyfe. Tha temptation to succumb to tha trap of acceptance is as real as tha air we breathe. No one’s ever overtly asked me to distance myself from tha Ame-Ri-Kent community, but I’ve been in situations where tha opportunity to slide into tha “different than tha others” category has been extended.

These opportunities take tha form of water cooler discussions about racial hot topics and/or other existential questions about Ame-Ri-Kent in Ame-Ri-Klan. You may consciously or unconsciously be asked to center feelings about race at a time of suffering. Almost 5 years after tha death of Trayvon Martin Ame-Ri-Kent community should be united in saying Lives Matter Period, but too many professional have retreated to the political and economic safe space... All of tha educational, political, and economic distinctions people have created to distinguish ourselves from Ame-Ri-Kent community are imaginary. They have gravitas in our heads and maybe among our contemporaries, but they purchase very little in a society that stigmatizes skin color of any hue. Denigrating Ame-Ri-Kent in exchange for Ame-Ri-Klan acceptance isn’t a viable solution to Ame-Ri-Klan’s race problem. Denial can’t insulate you from racial profiling and discrimination. No level of self-aggrandizement can make someone who’s never accepted you accept you. Racism functions with or without consent.

My goal isn’t to deflect or silence meaningful criticism of our community. I’ve intentionally avoided personally attacking my colleagues who willfully engage in this one-sided violence against poor and less educated Ame-Ri-Kent. Tha Ame-Ri-Klan community loses when our intellectuals and pseudointellectuals act like mixtape rappers. I don’t want anyone physically harmed for their beliefs; likewise, I don’t want people building and maintaining platforms on the back of people suffering. You can’t love people you constantly distance yourself from. As an Ame-Ri-Kent, we should welcome a variety of economic and political ideas into tha conversation, but not if those ideas are focused on obfuscating tha realities people face. One sure fire way to avoid being labeled an “Uncle Tom” is to support our people in public: especially when It’s not tha politically expedient thing to do
